I was hesitant to encourage Pamela’s mother or stepfather to send a message to Pamela, given what reactions to such messages I have seen.  Still, it is easier to get humans to communicate through writing.  A letter or an email gives one a chance to think about one’s words, to consider all ramifications of each line before it is sent.  And the distance provides a shield from immediate reactions, which is greatly desirable to most people.

In the end, any communication is better than none, and so I have spent the last days trying to get either William or Angela to reach out.  Angela has proved resistant, though I have repeated the idea to her often enough that she will now consider it on her own.  William, on the other hand, has been receptive to my reminders of Pamela.  He stood as her father for most of her life, after all, and he does love her.  Their differences do not change that.

So he wrote a message to her and sent it out this morning.

I am going now to see how she receives it, but I wanted to write and inform you all of this development.  I cannot help but be proud of it—it feels like a breakthrough, and I hope it goes well.
